Major changes and opportunities are coming – now and potentially soon – in the use of computer technology in FCPS schools. Those changes and opportunities are the
result of new developments in computer capabilities as well as in FCPS and FCC technology related programs. Some of those developments are:
- Tablet computers
- Smartphones
- Digital textbooks
- FCPS’s BYOD – Bring Your Own Devices –
Program - Online Courses
- Online Learning resources like the
KhanAcademy.org website - Federal Communication Commission’s
“Connect2Compete” Initiative - Virtual Mentoring
To fully take advantage of these developments, FCPS – and our children — will benefit from parents who are aware of their potential and, whenever
appropriated and possible, are engaged in helping make them of value to the students in our schools. Consequently the FCCPTA is exploring how it
might facilitate effective use of these developments by communicating news about them and establishing, if possible, an FCPS-wide technology committee.
To help the FCCPTA do that it would be appreciated if you would forward this message to your unit’s membership and ask any interested parents contact Walt Carlson (wcarlson1@cox.net), our Technology chairman.
Thank you for your help in this effort. The FCCPTA will let you know of parents who express interest and also keep you informed with any plans that result from this effort.
Regards, Mona
