FCCPTA Executive Officers Support Immediate Restoration of 5 Honors
Courses to High School Course Catalog
Letter to School Board Members Cites iPetition and Teacher Association
President
MERRIFIELD, VIRGINA – January 26,
2012 – Ramona Morrow, president of the Fairfax County Council of PTAs, issued a
letter today to the Fairfax County School Board in which she stated that the
Executive Committee (officers) of the FCCPTA “believes
that the following five Honors courses – World History 2 (10th grade), English
11 and US History (11th grade), English 12 and US Government (12th grade) -
should be offered live starting the first day of the
2012-2013 school year.”
More than 1,600 signatures were gathered in a joint FairGrade and Restore Honors Courses in Fairfax
County (RHC) iPetition that opened on July 1, 2011. The FCCPTA Executive Committee believes this indicates deep and wide support for the
restoration of the five honors-level courses listed above.
Additionally, the FCCPTA Executive Committee supports the following recommendations made by Fairfax County Federation of
Teachers President Steve Greenburg:
- Restore the
‘live’ Honors sections now - Consider
‘on-line’ Honors as a supplement /option for students - Begin forming
task-forces and focus groups of teachers, students, parents, school board
members, and FCPS administrators to examine how to revise Honors courses
to best meet the needs of all (content, process, selection, etc.)
